I’ve been training Beagles for longer than I’d like to remember. If I were to write a book on dog training I hope it would be as good as Secrets to Dog Training by Daniel Stevens. This book has been on my radar for several years; it was formerly known as SitStayFetch and was totally revamped and renamed in 2009. The book has been a best seller for quite some time; in fact it is the number one dog training guide on the internet with nearly a quarter million sales! After you get a look at it you’ll understand why it is so wildly popular. It’s a whopping 251 pages of very comprehensive dog training advice and it now comes with an all-new 30 minute video.
Daniel Stevens is an internationally renowned dog trainer. His book, Secrets to Dog Training is both accurate and authoritative. It covers all aspects of dog training in an easy to understand, easy to implement step-by-step manner. It goes over all of the tried and true dog training methods that Mr. Stevens has been using for years. Whether you need to deal with one specific problem with your dog or just want to become a better dog owner, this book has it covered.
Secrets to Dog Training is broken down in a very unique manner. The major topics of Understanding, Wellbeing, and Training are each broken down into three levels creating nine modules. The nine modules take you from the beginning of dog ownership all the way through to advanced commands and tricks. There’s no fluff; just page after page of solid information. Even the table of contents is highly detailed, taking up a full five pages. Nothing is left out.
Secrets to Dog Training covers way too many topics to cover in this review but here is a sample of what you get:
• How to select the correct puppy
• The stages of canine growth
• Good diet and nutrition
• Proper techniques for crate training
• How to understand your dog
• Dog whispering
• All about teaching your dog basic commands
• The best ways to communicate with your dog
• Eliminate almost every type of dog problem
• Teaching tricks such as shake, crawl, and rollover
• And much much more…
One of the most impressive things about Secrets to Dog Training is how many of the topics are followed by a “case study” for illustration. These are very helpful real-life instances of resolved training problems. The book is chock full of detailed illustrations, examples, and demonstrations to very clearly show how to train your dog even if he badly misbehaves.
Included with Secrets to Dog Training is something that you never see with other dog training manuals…a complete online support system to help you with problems you may be having with training. You get unlimited consultations! I find this aspect of the package invaluable and worth the price by itself but also included are several bonuses: The complete Secrets to Dog Training in audio form, a 30 minute video detailing many of the items found in the book, 175 Gourmet Recipes, Dog Grooming Made Easy, Secrets to Becoming the Alpha Dog, All the House Training Methods and Tricks, A Quick Guide to Dog Aggression, and Tips on Security Training Your Dog. If that weren’t enough I’m going reveal an unadvertised bonus: 20 Top Consultations which reveals the 20 best consultations they have answered.
I assume that by the tone of my review you can tell that I’m very enthusiastic about Secrets to Dog Training. It’s very impressive, completely everything you will ever need to know about dog training in a clear and concise package. I give it my highest rating.
