Hi,

My name is Clayton James and I want to welcome you to my site. You may have heard of me, I’ve been training Beagles for many years and I set up this site to help you with your Beagle problems. Feel free to check out some the great articles on Beagle training and the reviews of Beagle products that I have provided. Just click on any of the links on the left to browse the various pages.

Beagles are excellent pets

Beagles have a great temperament and are loving, sweet, and gentle making them one of the best family pets around. They quite readily socialize with children and other pets very well. Beagles are medium sized, usually no more than 25 pounds and 15 inches tall making them an ideal size for most homes including apartments. They have a smooth short-haired coat that is easy to maintain with occasional brushing and bathing. Beagles have few health problems and on average they live about 12-15 years. They are very energetic and possess great stamina and therefore they need plenty of exercise including a brisk walk at least once a day.

Click here NOW to discover the
Secrets of Beagle Obedience Training!

Beagles can be difficult

Every Beagle owner has their share of problems. Their dogs will dig, chew, scratch, whine or bark whenever it is least convenient. Beagle training can be difficult in regards to walking them too. They are scent hounds and were bred for hunting. One of their strongest characteristics is their sense of smell. They generally can’t be trusted off-leash because they chase after whatever “prey” (i.e. your neighbor’s cat or one of the local squirrel population) they may smell. It is well known that Beagles have a stubborn nature and can be difficult to train. This stubbornness can be overcome and that’s exactly why I developed this website…to help people with their Beagle training problems.

Beagles are trainable

So, if you own a Beagle, problems are a very real possibility, especially if the dog is not properly trained from a young age. Regardless of that, I want you to know that it’s not too late for Beagle training and that’s what FreeBeagleTraining.com is all about. Beagles have minds of their own. They are determined and watchful and require patient, firm training. It is important that you are the Alpha dog to become the Beagle’s pack leader. If you haven’t already, be sure to grab my free report on Alpha Dog Training below. It includes my free bi-weekly newsletter chock full of Beagle training tips.

I’ve been training Beagles for longer than I’d like to remember. If I were to write a book on dog training I hope it would be as good as Secrets to Dog Training by Daniel Stevens. This book has been on my radar for several years; it was formerly known as SitStayFetch and was totally revamped and renamed in 2009. The book has been a best seller for quite some time; in fact it is the number one dog training guide on the internet with nearly a quarter million sales! After you get a look at it you’ll understand why it is so wildly popular. It’s a whopping 251 pages of very comprehensive dog training advice and it now comes with an all-new 30 minute video.

Daniel Stevens is an internationally renowned dog trainer. His book, Secrets to Dog Training is both accurate and authoritative. It covers all aspects of dog training in an easy to understand, easy to implement step-by-step manner. It goes over all of the tried and true dog training methods that Mr. Stevens has been using for years. Whether you need to deal with one specific problem with your dog or just want to become a better dog owner, this book has it covered.

Click here NOW to visit Secrets of Dog Training

What’s inside:

Secrets to Dog Training is broken down in a very unique manner. The major topics of Understanding, Wellbeing, and Training are each broken down into three levels creating nine modules. The nine modules take you from the beginning of dog ownership all the way through to advanced commands and tricks. There’s no fluff; just page after page of solid information. Even the table of contents is highly detailed, taking up a full five pages. Nothing is left out.

Secrets to Dog Training covers way too many topics to cover in this review but here is a sample of what you get:

•	How to select the correct puppy
•	The stages of canine growth
•	Good diet and nutrition
•	Proper techniques for crate training
•	How to understand your dog
•	Dog whispering
•	All about teaching your dog basic commands
•	The best ways to communicate with your dog
•	Eliminate almost every type of dog problem
•	Teaching tricks such as shake, crawl, and rollover
•	And much much more…

One of the most impressive things about Secrets to Dog Training is how many of the topics are followed by a “case study” for illustration. These are very helpful real-life instances of resolved training problems. The book is chock full of detailed illustrations, examples, and demonstrations to very clearly show how to train your dog even if he badly misbehaves.

Click here NOW to visit Secrets of Dog Training

Have you ever been in the position of wondering if a problem with your Beagle warrants an expensive trip to the vet’s office? What you need is a solid grounding in canine medical basics to decide for yourself when your Beagle needs to see the vet. That’s exactly what this 240 page guide delivers.

The Ultimate Guide to Dog Health by Malcolm Fields is complete and detailed. It covers all of the serious (and not so serious) canine health problems with a strong focus on preparedness and how to take preventative action. It is chock full of step-by-step flowcharts to help you self diagnose your Beagle’s problems so that you can make informed decisions of whether he needs to see the vet and how urgently that vet visit should be. Each chart starts with a specific symptom and you simply follow the branches until you come to a recommended method of treatment.

Click here NOW for The Ultimate Guide to Dog Health

What’s Inside:

The book is very detailed and knowledgeable but it has an easy to understand tone without being overly technical. What this meant for me was not having to learn a bunch of jargon like you would have to with a veterinary textbook. It’s very comprehensive and covers a tremendous amount of material. Here are just a few examples:

•	Toothache and other dental problems
•	Ear infections
•	Parasites such as worms, fleas, and ticks
•	Skin rashes and other irritations
•	Breathing problems, coughing, and asthma
•	Diarrhea and vomiting
•	Arthritis
•	Serious ailments like cancer or liver problems
•	Symptomatic alerts such as hair loss, lethargy, or behavioral changes
• And much much more!

Something that I found extremely important is that it teaches you to pick up on early warning signs of your Beagle’s potential health problems by interpreting his body language and through behavioral and physical changes. All of the information is backed up with full-color diagrams, photos, and illustrations. Also covered are quick grooming tips, proper dental care, and how to correctly administer medications.

Click here NOW for The Ultimate Guide to Dog Health

The Ultimate Guide to Dog Health is a terrific bargain but they have made it even better by throwing in 4 additional books for free! They are:

The Ultimate Guide to Dog First Aid…an incredibly useful resource for what to do in an emergency (it even includes the Heimlich Maneuver for dogs)

180 Gourmet Recipes for your Dog…great ways to indulge your Beagle’s taste buds

101 Ways to Spoil Your Dog for Under $10…luxuries-on-a-budget that you and your dog can enjoy together

20 Super Healthy Recipes for Your Dog…you’ll learn that health food for dogs can be quite tasty

In summary…I think this book is truly indispensable and is a must-own for all Beagle owners. It will give you great peace of mind as it helps you spot little problems before they become big ones.

While going through the process of training a beagle puppy, the owner and the puppy will forge a strong bond with each other. They are highly intelligent dogs but seem to have a stubbornness when it comes to training. Many people say that training a beagle puppy is almost impossible because they have a mind of their own. Don’t believe everything that you hear…training a Beagle puppy is not as difficult as people will have you believe but it requires lots of patience.

When should you begin housebreaking?

House breaking should not begin until your Beagle is between 10 and 12 weeks of age and only after your puppy has been acclimated to your home. He needs to be old enough to have the physical capability of holding it. Most trainers will tell you that crate training a Beagle puppy is the best method for house breaking. Don’t let your human emotions stand in your way by thinking of a crate training as caging your Beagle. Beagles, like all other dogs, are a den type of animal and they come to regard their crate as a den; a safe place of his own where he will make a nest. Another nice thing about crate training is that it lessens the possibility of your Beagle suffering from separation anxiety. You can find more information on crate training a beagle puppy on this site.

Click here NOW to learn the

Secrets to Beagle Housebreaking

Training a Beagle puppy basic obedience commands such as sit, stay, lie down, roll over, fetch, etc. should begin between the ages of 3 and 6 months. Start with the easy ones like sit and work your way up from there. This is also a good time for leash training your Beagle. Beagles are easily distracted while out walking so here are the basics of training a Beagle puppy to walk on a leash:

The traditional training method

The traditional method of training a Beagle puppy to walk on a leash is a series of repeated interventions. Here’s the scenario…Your Beagle pulls on the leash…You stop…You issue a sharp command such as “No!”…At the same moment give a quick tug on the leash…Let the leash go slack…Start walking again…Repeat as necessary.
If you give enough repetition to this technique it will eventually work. Outdated methods such as the use of choke chains and collars are totally unnecessary.

Head and harness collars

Another innovative training technique for Beagle owners who are tired of their Beagles yanking them around by the leash are head and harness collars. There are several varieties of this type of device with the Halti Training Headcollar being the best known. Rather than the traditional dog collar that goes around the neck, the Halti consists of a nylon nose strap and neck strap. You attach the leash to a ring at the end of short strap under the dog’s chin. The two straps each have a specific function. The nose strap replicates the practice of showing pack dominance between two animals. One Beagle in the pack will firmly take another’s muzzle into his own in an act of dominance. The neck strap works differently and is intended to calm the Beagle my mimicking the practice of his mother grasping him by the back of the neck.

Beagles usually respond to an applied force by exerting an opposing force, which is why they often respond to a backwards pull of the leash with more pulling! The Halti is designed to reverse this behavior. The strap applies pressure to the back of the neck instead of the front of the throat and arrests any forward movement when that force is exerted. Also, in a fashion similar to a horse’s bridle you control the head of the Beagle. It is said that if you control the head, you control the beast.

Click here to grab a Halti Headcollar

for your Beagle (Size 2)

What comes next?

After obedience training a Beagle puppy has been completed there is a lot of time left to train him in other ways. The old adage that you can’t teach old dogs new tricks is totally false when it comes to Beagles. Usually the basics are enough for most Beagle owners but other people want to go further with more complex tricks. Beagles are very adept when it comes to agility training. Agility is a sport where dogs are timed as they run through a variety of obstacles and Beagles are one of the favorite dogs for this. Check with your local kennel club to see if there are any agility clubs in your area.

Training a Beagle puppy to sniff out game animals such as rabbits is one thing you won’t have to train him to do. They are scent hounds and have been bred to do this naturally and that is why so many people use Beagles when they hunt. Not only do they have an incredible sense of smell but they also have a remarkable howl to keep in touch with the hunter and communicate their location and what is happening on the hunt.

If you decide to take your Beagle beyond the basics make sure that he is old enough to handle the physical stress. He should be fully developed before you have him jumping, sprinting, or diving.

The results of prolonged aggression can be not only scary, but dangerous if not quickly taken to task.

The Source of Beagle aggression

Beagle aggression can start as young as 6 weeks of age, a crucial age when a puppy should be socialized with other dogs and given the necessary training that keeps them from biting other people. This period of socialization lasts until the dog turns 14 weeks of age and can extend even further beyond that.

This means several things. First, never take a puppy away from its litter before 8 weeks of age. Never use harsh discipline with the puppy between 8 and 10 weeks and make sure the dog is very gently treated in that time. Hitting, yelling or other harsh punishments at a young age can breed Beagle aggression over time.

Click here NOW to discover the best solution to
STOP Beagle Aggression for GOOD!

A Beagle needs to have been properly socialized with people and other dogs by the time he has reached 14 weeks to avoid any future aggression issues.

Actual aggression can be triggered by any number of factors. Heredity and genetics are certainly factors but it is by no means a hard fast rule. Additionally, Beagles that have not been neutered or spayed are more prone to aggressive tendencies.

By far, however, the most important factor in creating Beagle aggression is their environment. A dog that has poor living conditions, harsh masters, no socialization, or that has been frightened or attacked by another dog is far more likely to be aggressive as it ages.

Aggression can grow from the need to establish a pack pecking order. Biting, posturing, and other aggressive tendencies are often the result of a Beagle testing for dominance. You’ll need to establish dominance, become the Alpha dog, at a young age and maintain that position throughout the dog’s adolescence to ensure it doesn’t get a chance to take control of the household.

How can it be controlled?

If your Beagle exhibits aggressive behavior after 14 months of age, when it has reached sexual maturity, especially after it has been altered, you should address the problem immediately. First, make sure you have established yourself as the pack leader, the Alpha dog. Don’t reward your dog for aggressive behavior, even if it is scared (especially in this case).

Train your dog to respond to your commands, control feeding and walking times, and make sure the dog has a strong leader in the house. If you defer to the dog or allow it to take liberties in your home, it will exhibit stronger aggression toward others.

One of the newer techniques to calm aggressive behavior is through the use of dog appeasing pheromones (DAP). Dog appeasing pheromones replicate the pheromones released by the mother while nursing to calm her puppies. The best way to use DAP is with a diffuser but also comes in wipes, sprays, and special collars. When DAP was introduced to the market I thought it was just a gimmick but I gave it a try and have to say that I’m very impressed. I now recommend it!

If your Beagle is defensive-aggressive, he may strike out at a person in fear. These dogs may not have been properly socialized. Keep them away from small children (which they may see as direct threats) and attend a training session or behaviorist who can slowly acclimate the dog to a social atmosphere.

Click here NOW to discover the best solution to
STOP Beagle Aggression for GOOD!

Beagle aggression is a huge problem that many owners have, but it can be controlled, even as your dog gets older. If your Beagle’s aggression ever advances to violence, consider hiring a professional to intervene before someone gets hurt and your dog is held responsible.

Want it to stop? You’ve come to the right place.

Why is your Beagle begging?

The most important rule should be obvious; you should never give your Beagle food from the table. Most people follow this rule but that’s not enough. Some people will adamantly tell you that they never feed their Beagle from the table but afterward they scrape their plates off into his dish. If you share your food in any way at all with your Beagle, even if you give him dog food (which you should) but then you add some gravy or other leftover food scraps to it to “enhance” the flavor, that’s going to strongly encourage your Beagle begging. Your Beagle knows what you’re eating and if he’s used to getting some if it with his meal then he’s going to try to speed up the process. When you experience your Beagle begging while you’re eating he’s actually saying “What’s going on, did you forget about me, why are you making me wait? I want to eat right now!”

Click here NOW to discover the best solutions to
STOP Beagle Problems for GOOD!

Don’t reward the Beagle begging behavior

As with all other Beagle behavior, anything that is rewarded is continued. When you put those leftovers on his food you’re confirming that the begging worked, he got what he wanted.

The simplest way to absolutely end your Beagle begging once and for all is to absolutely have the begging fail. If your Beagle never gets the reward for his begging then he will give up and stop. The same goes for when you’re away from the table and just having a snack. If he looks at with you with those big sad eyes don’t give in. If you decide to “share” then you’re further reinforcing the Beagle begging behavior. Every time you share your food with your Beagle, no matter what the circumstance, you’re encouraging him to beg.

Click here NOW to discover the best solutions to
STOP Beagle Problems for GOOD!

In general dogs are creatures of habit and your Beagle is no different. People like to think of their pets as humans and therefore they try to treat them as such. That makes what I’m about to say sound counter intuitive: Feed your Beagle the same thing at the same time every day. Beagles actually prefer to have a routine with no surprises. The more consistent you are by feeding at the same time and not sharing any of your food, the Beagle begging behavior will completely stop.

Beagles are conveniently-sized, handsome, easy-to-groom, friendly with people, peaceful with other pets, and with their appealing soulful expression are a joy to have around. Based on this you would think that it’s perfectly natural for many people to consider them as potentially perfect pets however certain Beagle behavior may cause you to think otherwise.

Bad Beagle Behavior

Beagles were developed as hunting dogs and they have many hunting dog behaviors “hardwired” into their genes. One of the worst things about Beagle behavior comes from the fact that they are scent hounds, which means they will follow their nose wherever it leads them. You cannot trust these dogs off-leash. They will take off — oblivious to your frantic shouts — after anything that emits an odor or runs and since Beagles are endowed with selective deafness, they seldom come back when you call them.

Click here NOW to discover the best solutions to
STOP Bad Beagle Behavior for GOOD!

Because they are hounds, another unwanted Beagle behavior is their “hound dog” howl. It can be very loud and mournful and to those bothered by it, it can be quite distracting and irritating. In addition, you can’t leave them outside unmonitored, for Beagles are prone to wanderlust and can be adept climbers and diggers.

The Beagle’s vast stubbornness and distractibility call for early, consistent obedience training but that doesn’t mean that all Beagle behavior is bad.

Good Beagle Behavior

They are a happy, cheerful breed of dog which leads to favorable Beagle behavior. They are playful, energetic and good with children. Their eagerness to get along with other pets in the household allows them to be integrated into the family almost effortlessly. Beagles are one of the most endearing dogs you can own.

Although house breaking may take longer with your Beagle than it would with another breed, once they have it down, the Beagle behavior is exemplary. He or she will let you know when they are ready to go out and “accidents” in the house are very few and far between.

Click here NOW to discover the best solutions to
STOP Bad Beagle Behavior for GOOD!

If you want good Beagle behavior it is a good idea to train your Beagle so that he will have the manners that you expect. Good Beagle behavior doesn’t always come naturally, some of it must be instilled. You can take him to an obedience school or even train him yourself. Also, consider clicker training as one of your options.

A Beagle that bites is obnoxious at first, but as they age, they become dangerous, both to strangers and to your family. If your dog bites, no matter how old they are, take action quickly to stop it.

How to Stop Beagle Biting as Puppies

The easiest and most important time to pinpoint this behavior and stop it is when the dog is still a puppy. A puppy under six months of age is very easy to retrain because it is still in the formative years of its life, when dogs generally learn how to bite in the wild.

The big problem here is that many people assume their puppies are merely playing or teething and not really trying to hurt them. Unfortunately, what is really happening is that your puppy is learning how to assert its position in the pack, using its teeth to show who is in charge. If you want to know how to stop your Beagle from biting, it starts right here, when they are still very open to learning.

Click here NOW to discover the best solution to
STOP Beagle Biting for GOOD!

There are many ways to stop your puppy Beagle biting. Most of them will mimic how the puppy would be treated with its litter mates and mother. A light nip on the neck, a whining noise when you are bitten, and replacement therapy where you hand the dog a toy instead of your hand are all good ways to teach the Beagle puppy that biting other people is not acceptable. If you have trouble teaching your puppy to stop nipping, you should go to an obedience school or hire a trainer.

How to Stop Beagle Biting at One Year

If a Beagle puppy is allowed to nip and bite and show that it is in charge of the household, it will move on to play biting when it is a teenager at around one year of age. Any number of factors can contribute to this behavior. You should stop playing physical games with you dog right away. No wrestling, tug of war or other dominance related games.

Additionally, stop allowing your Beagle the run of the house. Give them boundaries, cut them down to a specific range of motion, even crate training them if necessary. A good obedience training program can be very helpful with a teenage dog that bites.

How to Stop Beagle Biting as they Age

If your Beagle continues to get away with their biting behavior, eventually it will evolve into a big problem as an adult. The dog might “turn on” their owner, but in reality, the dog always stays himself as the leader of the pack.

If your dog bites or nips at anyone after one year of age, you need to find a professional immediately because Beagle biting is a serious danger and the dog might choose to assert its dominance at any time with an attack.

Click here NOW to discover the best solution to
STOP Beagle Biting for GOOD!

When learning how to stop Beagle biting, you need to start at as early an age as possible. With only a few exceptions for disease or mental disorder, dogs that bite as adults had issues as puppies that could have been resolved.

They are going to chew on things, either because they are bored or because they are teething. It’s not a matter of actually stopping that chewing, but redirecting it. You need to generate enough things for your dog to do that they will not want to chew up your carpet, slippers, or couch cushions.

Why Stop Beagle Chewing?

When a Beagle is young, many people assume that they can let the dog continue chewing on whatever they want. It’s natural, right? Or they do the opposite and yell at their Beagle, confusing it and causing other behavior problems. In reality, your response should be somewhere in the middle, showing the dog that chewing on your things is not okay, but that there are plenty of alternatives.

Click here NOW to discover the best solution to
STOP Beagle Chewing for GOOD!

How to Stop Beagle Chewing

When it comes time to stop your Beagle’s chewing behaviors, there are a few things you can do. To start with, do not scold your dog openly or hit them for any reason. No matter how angry you get, make sure you don’t direct it at a Beagle. Not only does it confuse them, they likely will never figure out what they did wrong. Instead, consider the following actions.

Behavior Adjustment – Instead of simply trying to stop your Beagle from chewing on your things, teach it to chew on the right things. When you catch your Beagle chewing on a slipper, get the Beagle’s toy, replace it and then praise the dog when it starts chewing on the new toy. This will teach your Beagle that the new item is good and the old one is not.

Keep Your Beagle Busy – To stop Beagle chewing, you need to keep them from getting too bored. Even when not teething, a Beagle will chew to keep active. It’s like reading a book for them. Avoid this by getting them plenty of exercise and playing when you’re home. When you’re not home make sure there are stimulating toys that will keep them active.

Crate Training – If your Beagle gets into your things when you’re not home, crate train them so they have limited access to the home. You can even keep your Beagle in a single room while you’re away to limit their access, but the goal here should be the same.

Aversion Sprays – To stop Beagle chewing of things like carpet or couch cushions, which they can actively destroy, use a safe, humane spray like Bitter Apple or Cayenne Pepper that does not taste good to them. They will quickly associate those items with a bad taste that will keep them from chewing there.

Dog Appeasing Pheromones – One of the newest things on the market to calm dogs and help with bad chewing behaviors is highly affective dog appeasement pheromones (DAP). Dog appeasing pheromones replicate the pheromones released by the mother while nursing to calm her puppies. The best way to use DAP is with a diffuser but it also comes in wipes, sprays, and special collars.

Chewing behaviors in a Beagle are completely normal, but it should never be directed to your possessions or your fingers. If it is, you’ll need to start shifting it to something different.

Click here NOW to discover the best solution to
STOP Beagle Chewing for GOOD!

Be Consistent

If you really want to stop Beagle chewing, make sure you are consistent in all of your actions. Don’t let your dog chew on a slipper or a sock if you want them to leave your clothing around. Don’t let them have a stuffed animal as a toy and then expect them to know which stuffed animals are not okay. As the owner, lay down strict rules and follow them. Your dog will learn quickly enough and the chewing will be far less of a problem.

You’re not alone. Every year, millions of dog owners around the country learn how to keep their dogs in a crate or separate room when they leave the house so they can reduce anxiety, destructive behavior and barking. Beagle crate training is also a very valuable tool when trying to house break a new puppy and can make your life much easier if your dog insists on sleeping in your bed or on the couch.

The Value of a Crate to Your Beagle

Whether you’re learning how to do Beagle crate training or just determining if it is safe for your Beagle, know that most dogs love their crates. In the wild, a dog will seek out a small, safe space to burrow into that will keep them warm and safe. After all dogs are den type animals and Beagles are no exception. A crate performs wonderfully as a den, giving them a safe space that is theirs alone. Beagles that have wide open spaces often have trouble differentiating their “home” from it, and will grow anxious trying to control and patrol the entire space.

Click here NOW to discover the Secrets to proper
Crate Training and House Breaking!

How to Crate Train your Beagle

Ideally, Beagle crate training starts when your dog is a puppy. A full grown dog that has never been in a crate will have a harder time adjusting to the small space and may grow anxious. A puppy will also be a bit upset but adapts much quicker, and if the puppy never has the option to sleep with you in your bed, it will likely not have anything to be upset about.

It is best to place the crate in the family room where a lot of people will be. At night, you should put the crate in your bedroom to give him a safe presence nearby. Eventually, after a month or so, you should be able to leave him in one place, but for now, Beagle crate training requires you to keep him calm and safe.

When you put your Beagle puppy in the crate, make sure he has a clean, comfortable place to sleep, a source of water, and a toy to play with. The crate should be only big enough for him to sleep in. If he can walk around in it, he may make a mess in it. As long as the dog can turn around in the crate, it is comfortable for him, and not inhumane.

When learning Beagle crate training, make sure you don’t pull the dog out of the crate if he gets upset. This will only teach the puppy that if he makes a fuss, you’ll give him attention. Make sure you only take the puppy out of the crate when he has been quiet for at least 5 minutes. Then, greet him with a lot of attention and even a treat to reinforce that he did it right. If you want to help calm your puppy you may want to try dog appeasing pheromones (DAP). Dog appeasing pheromones replicate the pheromones released by the mother while nursing to calm her puppies. The best way to use DAP is with a diffuser but also comes in wipes, sprays, and special collars.

At first, try to leave your puppy in the crate for short periods of time – an hour or two at a time. As he grows older, increase that time to match a full night of sleep or a day at work.

Click here NOW to discover the Secrets to proper
Crate Training and House Breaking!

If you perform Beagle crate training properly, you’ll be able to ensure your dog never gets too loud, destructive, or anxious when you leave. A puppy adapts quicker too, which is much less stressful for everyone in the house.

It can be difficult to stop a Beagle digging because it’s in their nature to do so but by using a few Beagle training tips you will gain a vast improvement.

There are a number of useful methods that can be used to stop a Beagle digging and it will be a case of trying different methods until you find one that works successfully. It’s very important to note that Beagles are highly intelligent dogs and will sense when you are stressed or anxious. It’s possible that this may either increase your Beagle’s digging behavior or your Beagle will become stubborn and will just not want to learn. It is vital that you ensure that you are calm but firm at all times while training your Beagle not to dig.

Click here NOW to discover the best solution to
STOP Beagle Digging for GOOD!

Dog Treats

Dog treats can be used to stop a Beagle digging. A lot of dogs including Beagles respond really well to dog treats; treats should be used when your Beagle responds positively to the command to stop digging. Specific treats should only be used during training to stop a Beagle digging so that your Beagle knows that when he pays attention to the command and responds positively that only then will he receive the treat. Treats used should be small bite sized dog snacks, biscuits, or small pieces of meat.

Pat and Praise

A pat and praise are good methods to use to stop a Beagle digging. Beagles are very loyal dogs and want nothing more than to please their owners. If they can see that their owner is happy with their behavior they will want to show more of it to get their owner’s praise and attention.

Dog Collar and Lead

Although not as effective, a lead and collar can be used to stop a Beagle digging. Gently direct your Beagle away from the area where he has been digging and praise him when he stops.

Clicker training

Clicker training is a method of dog training where a small hand held clicker is utilized to reinforce good behavior. While your dog is digging issue a stern “no” and when he stops signal that he is doing the right thing with a click. Continue this practice repeatedly and your Beagle digging should soon be a thing of the past. Beagles seem to have a stubborn nature which can make Beagle dog training test your temperament to it limits.

Why do Beagles seem stubborn?

There are a couple of reasons that Beagles appear to be stubborn. Independence is by far the most commonly demonstrated Beagle trait and one that can cause Beagle dog training to be very difficult. An independent Beagle is often considered a hard-to-train one. The other reason that many people consider Beagles to be stubborn is because of their dominance. A dominant Beagle will exhibit behavior that makes them seem to be untrainable. Let’s look at how these traits can jeopardize Beagle dog training.

Independent Beagles

Independent Beagles are often viewed as renegades who never need to please anybody. While they unquestionably love their owners, their drive to please them isn’t as strong as it is for other types of dogs. This is what makes Beagle dog training so difficult.

Click here NOW to discover the
Secrets to Beagle Obedience Training!

However, the fact that Beagles are independent by nature doesn’t mean that they are impossible to train. What it does mean is that you will have to know what works with them and what doesn’t. A big mistake many Beagle owners make is to apply force in correcting their habits. When performing Beagle dog training physical corrections such as hitting and yanking generally leads to passive resistance. Once your Beagle has taken this stance it will be very hard, if not impossible, to get him to obey your commands.

Keeping his independence in mind, how then should Beagle dog training be accomplished? The best way is to find out what rewards elicit a positive response. An adequate reward will give you the advantage and your Beagle will surely be more accommodating to his training.

Dominant Beagles

A dominant Beagle is one that explicitly shows you that he won’t be bossed around. He is the pack leader. While your independent Beagle will simply ignore your commands, a dominant Beagle will show you his discontent of being ordered around. If your Beagle displays defensive behavior while guarding his food or toys, shows a readiness to launch into a fight, or growls when not allowed to do what he wants then he considers himself dominant over you. To overcome this obstacle you must become the Alpha dog.

Click here NOW to discover the
Secrets to Beagle Obedience Training!

Beagle dog training of a dominant Beagle can only be accomplished after you prove yourself to him. He must recognize your authority or else your role will be lower on the pack pecking order. For successful Beagle dog training you must establish your authority. Once your leadership is firmly established and your Beagle understands that you hold the Alpha dog position your training sessions will go very smoothly.

Beagle dog training with a clicker is one of the most effective and impressive methods for controlling and dictating a Beagle’s behavior when trying to teach them basic commands. It takes very little time to master clicker training and with a well operated clicker, you can teach your dog nearly anything.

How Beagle dog training with a Clicker Works

The idea behind clicker training is that you’re teaching your Beagle to associate the sound of the clicker – a strong, sharp sound that they can hear from 20+ yards away – with a specific command you give. The goal of the Beagle dog training is to mark specific desirable behavior and then reward it with the sound of the clicker.

Of course clicker dog training does not start with a clicker. You must first teach your Beagle that the clicker is a reward for good behavior. This can be done with a bag of treats and a simple, two dollar clicker from your local pet store.

Click here NOW to discover the Secrets
to Clicker Training your Beagle!

It is important that you use a clicker in Beagle dog training for a number of reasons. To start with, your Beagle should never hear that clicker for any reason other than to tell them they did a good job and that a treat is on the way. A word or verbal command might be given in different situations and the relationship in their head is not quite as strong because of it.

When you start training your Beagle to respond to a clicker, there are three very basic steps. First, you will get the behavior – convincing your dog to do something that you want. It may be sitting, speaking, rolling over, or whatever other tricks you’re trying to teach. Once you’ve gotten them to perform their behavior, mark it with the clicker and a reward.

It usually only takes two or three markings before a dog learns what the behavior they did was and starts repeating it whenever you use the clicker. Clicker Beagle dog training works well because they will immediately respond, allowing you to reward them and immediately instill it in their minds. A verbal command will take time to get through.

Once your Beagle has done the behavior and received his reward, continue doing it to reinforce the behavior as much as possible. You do not have to use treats every time. Praise and petting work just as well and can eventually replace the behavior.

Transitioning to a Command

Once the dog has learned the behavior well, clicker dog training will have you transition to a spoken command that can be used anywhere, even when you don’t have a clicker. Whenever you are about to use the clicker, say the command and then click, followed by the reward. The dog will quickly learn to associate all three.

Eventually, with good clicker Beagle dog training, your dog will respond to a verbal cue and praise for their action and then they will simply learn it. The need for treats or praise will be gone and the dog will simply know that the action pleases you.

Click here NOW to discover the Secrets
to Clicker Training your Beagle!

As you might imagine, clicker Beagle dog training has a number of applications. It can make training your dog so much easier in many ways. With a simple, sharp command, you can mark and reinforce nearly any behavior.

Beagles have three types of vocalizations; the bark, the howl, and the bay (a cross between a bark and a howl). Lovers of the breed seem to find Beagle howling endearing while most others are irritated by it. Beagle howling is quite amazing; the dog throws his head back, points his nose straight up and lets out a long, drawn out, haunting song. It’s almost a sad sound and is not easy to forget. Luckily Beagles aren’t the type of dog to bark incessantly like many of the toy breeds but they are hard-wired to sound alerts. The alerts are usually to let it be known that prey has been spotted. The bay which is Beagle howling with a bark added in is a vocalization used with a lot of insistence. The Beagle is trying to point out something of interest; it’s what he was bred to do.

Why Beagles Vocalize

Beagles are hound dogs that have been bred to vocalize while on a hunt. The vocalizations, especially Beagle howling help keep hunters aware of the dog’s position to let him know whether the beagle is chasing its prey or whether the prey has been caught. All of these vocalizations can be heard over very long distances. On the hunt they often disappear into thick vegetation making it hard to see them. In those situations sound is the only sense available to the hunter to locate where his dog is and that’s why it is important that Beagle howling is loud.

Click here NOW to discover the Secrets to END
Beagle Separation Anxiety and Howling!

Since most Beagles are pets, the majority of them have never been on a hunt and the vocalizations are caused by almost anything that gets the dog’s interest such as strange sounds, another animal within sight, or even something as simple as a moving shadow. Beagles keep a constant vigil on their immediate environment in preparation of alerting their owner that something is out of the ordinary.

One of the biggest problems with Beagle howling and baying is that the dog will use these vocalizations when left alone. Beagles love companionship and become unhappy during long periods of time without a playmate leading to separation anxiety. They will spend hours howling and baying while waiting at the door, in the backyard, or even out the window.

Since howling is an integral part of their breeding, it’s very difficult to train your Beagle to not do it. If you know that you’re going to be leaving your Beagle alone for extended periods of time it may be a good idea to kennel the dog or to hire a dog sitter if possible.

Click here NOW to discover the Secrets to END

The Beagle is a very popular family pet known for their affection and loyalty. It may come as a surprise to many Beagle owners that they were originally bred for hunting. Beagle obedience training and house training is often troublesome but that’s not true when it comes to Beagle hunting…there is literally no training involved because it is deeply ingrained in their nature. Beagle hunting for rabbits is very popular because the Beagle is as a small scent hound ideally suited for this sport. Hunting with Beagles can be done with individual dogs or with packs with as many as seventy hounds.

Usually a hunter that is hunting with Beagles will have one to five dogs along for the task. What this means is that the larger the pack, the larger number of hunters will need to be there to handle them. Hunting with Beagles in large packs offers greater chances of success because they will split into smaller packs and run more rabbits at the same time.

Rabbit hunting with Beagles includes many types of rabbits; black-tailed jackrabbits, white-tailed jackrabbits, snowshoe hares, and the many varieties of cotton tails. For that reason, Beagle hunting is an almost limitless sport.

Click here NOW to discover the
Secrets of Beagle Obedience Training!

How did it start?

Beagle hunting is believed to have begun in ancient Rome and imported to Roman Britain. The Beagle is one of the oldest breeds in history and probably one of the closest to the original breeds of hound. Beagle hunting didn’t start as a sport but rather as a necessity, an essential duty when rabbit numbers on any land holding exceeded sensible numbers. The fact that Beagle hunting is not complex helped it to evolve into a sport that is enjoyed by both the young and old. Many hundreds of families have found that hunting with Beagles has actually helped strengthen family bonds.

Why Beagles?

Hunting with Beagles involves the dog using his sense of smell to track rabbit and hare while the hunter follows on foot. Beagles are short coated and very sturdy little hounds well suited for chasing down their prey. They are regarded as the best dog breed of any member of the hunting dog group for hunting rabbits because of their keen nose for picking up the scent of game and an abundant readiness to follow a scent trail without becoming distracted. They are one of the most tenacious hunting dogs there is and keep in contact with the hunter with their “hound dog” howl.

Beagle hunting for rabbits can be very enjoyable. It can really be as simple as a quiet walk with your Beagle, your old single-shot and a pocketful of shells. Rabbit hunting commonly requires a bit of luck but not with your Beagle along with you. There will be rabbits around you that you will not see and it is the dog that will sniff them out for you. Hopefully they are lying low away from their burrows.

Click here NOW to discover the
Secrets of Beagle Obedience Training!

Hunting with Beagles can occur almost anywhere. Beagle hunting in hills, mountains, forests, swamps, prairies, and deserts are all common. Throughout the country you’ll find many-productive places for Beagle hunting for rabbits. These rabbit-hunting spots provide both food and cover for rabbits. Brushy country, particularly dry country, provides what is probably the easiest to hunt of all the habitats. The rabbits can be found pretty much anywhere there is some form of cover and your Beagle will take great delight in sniffing them out.

Beagles were bred to be hunting dogs. Their job includes pursuing their prey for long stretches at a time. This work necessitated that Beagles be both strong and agile, with very high energy levels and an incredible amount of endurance.

The Beagle’s athletic abilities allow it to bound through and over thick brush while on the hunt. This is what leads to strong Beagle jumping abilities which are quite impressive and widely known. While this is one of the many physical traits that made Beagles such great hunting dogs, it can prove disastrous when the dog is introduced into a modern household setting.

Damage and Injury

Regardless of the reason, Beagle jumping can be a serious problem. These dogs may be small but their athletic abilities make them somewhat powerful for their size. This means that they can easily cause injury to a person and damage to property. They are also quite likely to injure themselves when jumping around in a confined or cluttered space.

Click here NOW to discover the best solution to
STOP Beagle Jumping for GOOD!

While most adult Beagles are agile enough to keep from causing massive destruction of property by accident, puppies and young dogs are especially prone to accidentally knocking things over when they’re bouncing around.

Not only can you lose some property to this type of activity, but children and older people can also easily be knocked over by a gallivanting Beagle.

Beagle Athleticism

Most of the Beagles around today don’t participate in hunting. They do still possess all of the physical attributes of their hunting forebears, however, meaning that they are extremely athletic and love to engage in physical activity.

If your dog is not getting the necessary amount of exercise, however, he will likely try and burn off some of that excess energy in an inappropriate way, like literally bouncing off the walls. Beagle jumping is often something that results from this type of situation, meaning that one good way to keep your Beagle from jumping around so much is to simply wear him out.

Of course, there are quite a few other reasons that Beagle jumping can occur. The most common reason for a dog to jump up on a person is because they are excited. You need to teach your Beagle early on not to jump up on people when he first meets them.

Unfortunately, excitement isn’t the only reason a Beagle may jump up on people. Beagle jumping is also often a way for the dog to show its dominance over a new person or animal. This is often actually only a symptom of a larger problem because a dog will only try to assert dominance if he thinks he is in charge already. It’s his way of letting newcomers know the score.

If you have already claimed your place as the pack leader, however, your Beagle will not be as likely to try and dominate other people he encounters. Instead, he will look to you for guidance, and if you accept that new person, then he will be inclined to follow your example. Your dog will also not feel obligated to protect the pack if he knows that you will, making this type of domination unnecessary.

Curbing the Jumping Tendency

Beagles are very loyal, perceptive and capable dogs and they can be a great addition to your household. Beagle jumping and other behavioral issues commonly associated with these dogs are almost always able to be controlled by careful and consistent training.

Click here NOW to discover the best solution to
STOP Beagle Jumping for GOOD!

While this type of training can be extremely effective, it is not always easy and so Beagles may not be the right dog for you if you are not an experienced dog owner. The proper training regimen, however, can make almost any Beagle a happy and welcome member of your family.

Whatever advice you get and decide to use, you must be prepared to be strict and consistent. Beagle problems seem greater than those of other dogs simply because Beagles are very stubborn to train. The various types of Beagle problems you may encounter are aggression, chewing, separation anxiety, jumping, digging, whining, barking, and howling. No matter what the Beagle problems are, there is usually a method of dealing with it. If one method doesn’t work, try another.

Identify Beagle Problems

Sometimes people confuse what they think is a Beagle being friendly when in reality the dog is developing bad habits that need to be stopped. If your beagle jumps on people constantly, grabs things from you and then refuses to give them back without a fight, or constantly barks at you or any company in the house then these are signs of behavioral problems that need to be addressed right away.

Click here NOW to discover the
Secrets to Beagle Obedience Training!

Identify any Beagle problems as early as you can. The sooner you can get startred on a solution, the better.

Take Your Beagle Home at the Correct Age

Some Beagle problems can be traced back to things that the owner may have absolutely no control over. If a puppy is taken from its mother and siblings too early it won’t have as good a chance to learn on its own as it would if it were older. When this happens you will more than likely have developmental Beagle problems with even the most basic of functions and they can be difficult to fix.

Beagle puppies left with their mother and litter mates for longer than seven weeks begin to develop a feel for social order but if left too long that can turn into long-term behavioral Beagle problems as well. If your beagle was used to being the top puppy in its litter for too long then that behavior could follow them for the rest of their lives. It is important to understand how to these things affect your beagle in order to train it properly.

Beagle Problems at Different Life Stages

One of the most difficult training milestones many Beagle owners experience is housebreaking their pet. For many owners it can be frustrating because they try all of the standard techniques and still the Beagle problem seems to never go away. On some rare occasions a problem with housebreaking a Beagle may be a physical ailment rather than behavioral problem. If your vet gives you a clean bill of health do some research and find alternate ways of housebreaking your beagle.

Click here NOW to discover the Secrets to
House Break your Beagle for GOOD!

Training your Beagle should be done in stages. There are Beagle problems that a ten month old Beagle will do that a three month old Beagle could never think of. Training should always be done with patience and understanding and, as was mentioned before, the proper way to go about these steps can be found on this site and in many very good dog training books available on the market.

They aren’t used to their new surrounding and are most likely scared and need to adjust to being away from their mother and litter mates. To reduce Beagle puppy crying it is very important to do things to make them feel more comfortable.

Crate Training

Crate training is one of the best things you can do from the very beginning for your new beagle puppy. Crate is simply a nice word for cage. Don’t get emotional about placing your beagle puppy in a cage, he doesn’t think of it like that. Rather, since dogs are den type animals he will think of it as his den and learn to be very safe and comfortable there, giving him a sense of his own territory and thereby reducing the Beagle puppy crying. This feeling of safety will help him to stop crying sooner than he would without the crate.

Click here NOW to discover the Secrets to proper
Crate Training and House Breaking!

Raise 2 puppies

Keep in mind that beagle puppies are born into large litters and have their sibling always there for comfort. Separating your new puppy from that can be a traumatic experience for him. Night time is when your puppy will most miss his siblings and therefore do most of his crying. Beagle puppies are notorious for crying a lot in the beginning. One method of controlling Beagle puppy crying is to raise two puppies rather than one. Put both of the puppies in a crate together and they will snuggle together and comfort each other. This of course isn’t very practical if you only want one puppy.

Comfort your Puppy

One of the newer approaches to comfort your puppy is also one of the more excellent ones and uses a technique borrowed from nature. Comfort your Beagle puppy with dog appeasing pheromones (DAP). Dog appeasing pheromones replicate the pheromones released by the mother while nursing to calm her puppies. The best way to use DAP is with a diffuser but also comes in wipes, sprays, and special collars.

For the single puppy try placing a stuffed animal in the crate with him to snuggle with. A wind-up alarm clock wrapped in a towel is also an effective tool. The rhythmic sound of the ticking will be very comforting to the puppy. For warmth you can try a hot water bottle or a heating pad on its lowest setting.

Click here NOW to discover the Secrets to proper
Crate Training and House Breaking!

It is extremely important to not give in and take the puppy to bed with you. It may be hard to listen to a Beagle puppy crying but after just few nights he will stop. Remain consistent and patient and it won’t be long until your beagle puppy not only stops crying at night but actually seeks the comfort of his crate when it’s time to go to bed.

One of the most common problems that the average Beagle owner has is Beagle separation anxiety. At the low end, anxiety can be annoying, causing your dog to bark or howl when you leave the house. However, if it is allowed to advance, your dog might start destroying your home, making messes, or barking incessantly for hours when you leave.

The Sources of Beagle Separation Anxiety

Beagles are pack animals. They feel a direct attachment to their masters and when you leave the house, they will grow agitated. However, most of the anxiety they feel is due to the attachment of specific actions you take to your absence. While your Beagle does not like it when you leave, there is no direct reason they should grow so agitated.

It happens because you give them attention before and after you leave or you go through the same routine every morning. Their behaviors are reinforced on a daily basis and the result is a dog that cannot control his anxious feelings when you leave the house.

Click here NOW to discover the Secrets
to END your Beagle’s Separation Anxiety!

Reducing Beagle Separation Anxiety

There are many ways to reduce the anxiety your Beagle feels when you leave the house. Here are a few of the easiest methods.

Change Your Routine – Start by changing your morning routine. If your Beagle starts acting strange the second your alarm clock goes off, they have tagged that sound to the process of you leaving the house, the beginning of the Beagle separation anxiety. Get up at different times, get dressed earlier, take your keys down before you leave and wait for a while. Little variations will reduce pre-leaving anxiety.

Don’t Reinforce It – When you pet your dog before you leave or lavish them with attention when you get home, you’re only reinforcing the behavior. The easiest way to reduce Beagle separation anxiety is to remove the association between your comings and goings and their attention. Ignore your Beagle for 10-15 minutes when you get home, don’t pet them when you leave and stop giving in when they make sad noises. This can be practiced with crate training or putting them in a separate room in your house then leaving and coming back in intervals.

Building Up to Longer Times – If your dog grows anxious the second you walk out the door, start working on leaving the house for shorter periods of time. Leave for a few seconds and then come back. Beagle separation anxiety can be treated by changing the dog’s expectations for how long you’ll be gone and when you’ll return. If they see you are coming back each time, you can stretch out how long you are able to leave each time.

Use Dog Appeasing Pheromones – Dog appeasing Pheromones (DAP) replicate the pheromones released by the mother while nursing to calm her puppies. DAP works unbelievably well to reduce separation anxiety. It should…the idea was borrowed from nature. The best way to use DAP is with a diffuser but also comes in wipes, sprays, and special collars.

You’re not being mean

Many people feel that the solutions to anxiety are cruel to the dog. In reality, you are helping your dog to relax and know that you are not only coming home but that you are in charge of the domain and there is no reason for them to feel that anxiety. Reduced Beagle separation anxiety is good for their health – both physical and mental.

Click here NOW to discover the Secrets
to END your Beagle’s Separation Anxiety!

If your Beagle has prolonged, severe anxiety problems, it is important to address it right away. Even if your dog merely gets upset and doesn’t destroy anything when you leave, you can greatly reduce their feelings of abandonment if you teach them not to associate your comings and goings with the pack order and their survival.

What is a Beagle Terrier?

Basically a Beagle Terrier is a mixed breed dog with one of the parents, mother or father, a Beagle and the other parent one of the Terrier breeds. It isn’t a “stand-alone” breed since there are several dozen Terrier breeds. Since a Beagle Terrier isn’t a specific breed of dog it is impossible to give a single accurate description.

The appeal of a Beagle Terrier

A Beagle Terrier mix might be appealing for several reasons. Many people appreciate the spunky personality of terrier breeds and they like the fact that most of them are typically small. Even with that knowledge it is impossible to know what type of personality or size the Beagle Terrier will have. Making it even more difficult to determine what they will look like are all of the different attributes of terriers. There are some that are diminutive and athletic while others are sturdy and muscular. Some terriers are wire haired and others are smooth.

Click here NOW to discover the
Secrets to Beagle Obedience Training!

Beagles are considered to be very handsome with their broad skull, squared muzzle, tri-colors, and stout appearance. Therefore whatever type of terrier you cross it with, it’s easy to imagine it will be very fetching!

The personality of a Beagle Terrier is almost impossible to predict but some educated guess work is possible. Beagles are known for their friendliness, they are pack dogs and usually get along with other breeds without trouble. They are lovable and playful but often have a short attention span. They are scent hound and often wander off letting their nose lead them.

Many terriers are much like Beagles. They’re friendly and fun loving and well known as intelligent animals. Terriers are also very vocal and tend to bark at the slightest strange sound. They are typically good-natured and make good family pets. Even thought there many similarities between Beagles and Terriers, there are just as many differences that can make a Beagle Terrier an unpredictable mix to predict. Beagles are very trusting dogs but Terriers can be very suspicious of strangers.

Spend some time before deciding

As you can see, Beagles and Terriers share some similarities in personality however there are a lot of differences too. When it comes to a litter of Beagle Terrier mix puppies, it’s not possible to tell whether they will be possessive and territorial or just the opposite and trusting of everyone.

Click here NOW to discover the
Secrets to Beagle Obedience Training!

If you are considering getting a Beagle Terrier mix try spending some time with it before committing to a purchase or adoption. Hopefully you’ll get an idea of its personality to decide whether a Beagle Terrier mixed breed is right for you or not.

Walking your Beagle training tips

Most Beagle owners would agree that walking them is one of the most frustrating events there is. Beagles put their keen nose down to the ground and constantly pull and tug as they move from each discovered smell to the next. To make walking more enjoyable start with a six foot leash. This will give your Beagle a radius to explore that is the right size for a leisurely walk. If he starts to pull and tug then quickly change direction. Your dog will quickly learn that you’re deciding the direction and pace of the walk, not him.

Click here NOW to discover the
Secrets to Beagle Training!

Begging Beagle training tips

Another area of Beagle training is to control their begging. They always seem to be where the food is and know who to stare at with those big eyes to get some of it. This may seem cute but giving in may cause a training problem. The first thing you have to do is to remove the beagle from the scene. At first start by placing him in his crate just before you eat. This will help stop his interest in the aromas he will smell. Later you can tell him to stay in a dedicated spot away from the food. The important thing is to remain consistent. If he starts to lapse and come over to the table to beg, go back to the crate for a few days. Eventually it will pay off and you’ll be free of a begging beagle.

Barkling Beagle training tips

Walking your Beagle is just the beginning. You also must teach barking control, a major issue with many Beagles. The hound dog howl of a beagle can be very obnoxious to you but to the dog it is simply a means of protecting your home. To get it under control requires a bit of counter-intuitiveness; believe it or not you have to encourage him to do it. Get your beagle to bark at you and while he is doing it, ask him to “speak” and give him a treat. Continue this practice and when you want him to stop simply turn your back and say “shush”. After a few training sessions your Beagle will understand the two new commands.

Click here NOW to discover the
Secrets to STOP Beagle Barking for GOOD!

Tricks

The basics are important but it is also fun to teach your beagle some tricks. Put that super sensitive nose of his to some use and teach him to shake. Simply put a treat in your closed fist and hold it in front of him until he becomes frustrated to the point of clawing at it. When he does say “shake” and open your hand to let him have the treat. Keep doing this and it won’t be long until you have him shaking your hand without a treat.

Training a Beagle can be a real challenge. Be patient and remain consistent and you will be rewarded with a well trained dog.

Causes of Beagle Whining

As with most dogs, Beagles don’t have a lot sounds in their vocabulary. The vocalizations they use all have their purpose for some type of communication. With Beagle whining the purpose is for care soliciting. Beagle puppies whine to communicate to their mothers that they are cold, hungry, or just want comfort. The Beagle whining brings a response from the mother and as a result the puppy learns that whining is a mechanism to get attention.

Sometimes the new human puppy owners inadvertently reinforce Beagle whining with their reactions to it. They attend to the puppy at every whine and whimper that the puppy makes. Others simply approach the put to make sure it’s all right and take action if necessary. This also reinforces to the puppy that whining will get some attention.

Beagle whining can occur for many reasons; because they’re anxious, excited, wanting attention, or because they are in pain. Beagle whining in the case of pain or trauma is reflexive and is regarded as a good thing since you will want to know about these conditions. For all others it can be a nuisance.

Click here NOW to discover the best solution to
STOP Beagle Whining for GOOD!

Stop Beagle Whining

First and foremost determine that any factors that may cause your dog to whine are not present. Be sure that he isn’t in any type of pain, that he is well fed and has plenty of fresh water to drink. Make sure that he isn’t cold or exposed to any elements that may cause anxiety. Be certain that he has gotten plenty of exercise and attention from you throughout the day.

You may also want to try dog appeasing pheromones (DAP). The use of dog appeasing pheromones is an idea that was borrowed from nature. The pheromones replicate those released by the mother while nursing to calm her puppies. DAP works incredibly well to reduce separation anxiety and stop whining. The best way to use DAP is with a diffuser but it also comes in wipes, sprays, and special collars.

If all the factors that may cause Beagle whining are removed it is permissible to ignore it when it happens. This is exactly how it is done in nature by the mother of the puppy. Puppies are normally brought home around 8 weeks of age and haven’t had that part of their training by their mothers yet and it’s your job to do it.

Click here NOW to discover the best solution to
STOP Beagle Whining for GOOD!

By ignoring the whining you are not reinforcing it by showing the dog that whining will get it the attention it desires. By maintaining your dog properly and not reinforcing the behavior you want to eliminate, the Beagle whining will soon stop.

Size characteristics of miniature Beagles

Miniature Beagles are 7 – 12 inches tall at the shoulders. That’s a wide range of heights but considerably shorter than the average of 15 inches for the standard Beagle. They weigh between 7 – 15 pounds, again considerably less than the average of 25 pounds for a standard Beagle. Besides their size and weight, all other characteristics are the same as their standard sized counterparts.

Living Conditions

Because of their smaller size, miniature Beagles are much better suited for apartment living than are standard Beagles. Miniature Beagles require as much exercise as the full sized Beagles but their yard can be considerably smaller. They are very active little dogs, both inside and outside.

Click here NOW to discover the Secret to
House Breaking your Beagle!

They possess great stamina and require a lot of exercise. A good brisk daily walk is very important. Like their standard sized cousins, miniature Beagles should not be trusted off the leash because they tend to turn off their hearing and follow their noses.

Basic description

The description of the miniature Beagle is identical to that of the standard Beagle. They are a small, hardy scent hound, sturdily and squarely built. Miniature Beagles have a short coat that is sleek and easy to care for and comes in the typical hound colors of black, brown, red, and white. They have long, wide pendant ears and a full nostrilled black nose with an excellent sense of smell. They have a slightly rounded broad skull their muzzle is straight and square. The eyes of the miniature Beagle are either brown or hazel with a characteristic pleading expression.

Temperament and training

Like their standard sized counterparts, miniature Beagles can be stubborn to train but once they learn who the Alpha dog pack leader is the process becomes much easier. They are very watchful and determined and require firm and patient training. Crate training as a method of housebreaking is highly recommended for miniature Beagles just like the standard variety. Another consideration is clicker training which will greatly shorten the training process.

Click here NOW to discover how EASY it
is to Clicker Train your Beagle!

Miniature Beagles have a sweet, loving disposition and seem to love everyone! They are very sociable, brave, and intelligent and make an ideal family pet. They’re excellent with children and are considered to be generally good with other dogs. They can be trusted with other household pets but only after they have been socialized. Like standard Beagles, miniatures Beagles don’t like to be left home alone and often suffer separation anxiety. If you’re going to be away a lot consider getting two.

Why? Because the temperament of Beagles is of a nature that is friendly and playful. This works really well with both adults and children alike. Beagles are highly intelligent dogs but like others in the hound family, the temperament of Beagles is often considered stubborn.

Training can be a challenge

Other breeds of dogs may be less challenging to train and housebreak but once your Beagle puppy learns the rules of your household he won’t likely forget them. Beagles are scent hounds and their powerful nose may contribute to training problems. Their sense of smell is so keen that unseen distractions may pop up from time to time. This is the main reason that a Beagle shouldn’t be let off his leash unless he is in his own, fenced yard. The fact that your Beagle wants to put his head down and follow his nose isn’t a sign of a bad temperament of Beagles. It’s something that was bred into him centuries ago and he can’t help it if he smells an occasional “distraction”.

Click here NOW to discover the
Secrets to Beagle Training!

Beagle companionship

Beagles shouldn’t be confused with Labrador Retrievers. The temperament of Beagles isn’t one of living to please their masters. On the contrary, Beagles tend to be independent and stubborn by nature. This doesn’t mean that they don’t love their families but it does mean that training them will require a little more patience than that of other breeds. They are social animals and enjoy spending lots of time with their families and they will give you many years of fun and enjoyment. The hard work you put into training your Beagle will reward you with a family pet that will be a real joy.

The temperament of Beagles is often one of being very active. If you enjoy long, brisk walks then a Beagle is the perfect dog for you. They enjoy lots of exercise. Their natural instinct is to run, especially when an interesting scent catches their attention.

The social aspect of the temperament of Beagles is very rewarding. They love to curl up in a favorite spot near the rest of the family. Your Beagle will crave companionship from all members of his family and with the proper training he will be a friendly addition to your home.

Training is important

An important aspect of maintaining the good temperament of Beagles is proper training. It is important to establish yourself as the Alpha dog. Start training early and be firm and consistent until he is housebroken and learns the basic commands. Overcoming Beagle stubbornness and loss of focus because of strange smells is hard to do sometimes so patience is very important. Check out some of the other pages here on this site for lots of great training tips.

Click here NOW to discover the
Secrets to Beagle Training!

Conclusion

The temperament of Beagles is exceptional and they make a great addition to the family. They aren’t the type of dog that can live outdoors alone. They’re very social and once they understand who the Alpha dog is they are fairly easy to train. Your Beagle will be happiest when he is with you and the rest of your family.

Training a Beagle for obedience will teach it how to behave in certain situations that it will almost certainly encounter at some point in its life. However, some owners either cannot afford the price for training a Beagle or decide they would rather do it themselves. So, here is a brief rundown of what you can gain from that training to help you determine if your dog would benefit from it.

The Benefits of Training a Beagle for Obedience

Beagles are very stubborn but because of the structure when they are in obedience training they quickly learn how to respond to specific, well delivered commands. Training a Beagle entails a certain amount of human training. That means you will have to learn how to give those commands. Many people neglect their end of the bargain in dog ownership. They feel like the burden lies with their dog, not themselves. Think of training a Beagle as a two way street and it will be far more effective. Here are some examples.

Leadership

In obedience training a Beagle, you will learn how to assert your dominance over the dog to show them that you are in charge at all times and that they must listen to you. If these behaviors are replicated in your home, your Beagle will have a much easier time following your lead. Alpha leadership is the cornerstone of all good training.

Basic Commands

Obedience training a Beagle will provide you with basic commands like sit, stay, heel, speak, and quiet – basics that will make your Beagle more respondent when it really matters. These four behaviors will form the foundation of everything you need to teach them more tricks later.
No Biting or Barking – Two of the biggest problems that any dog (including Beagles) can have are biting and barking. Different levels of dog obedience training can deal with these specific behaviors and ensure that your Beagle does not act out of line. Biting in particular should be dealt with at a young age.

Click here NOW to learn the

Secrets to Beagle Obedience Training

Walking

Tired of having your Beagle pull you down the street? In a good training class, you’ll learn how to control your dog’s movements, keep them from running around on you and ideally teach them to sit and heel when needed at corners and when other dogs walk by.

Training a Beagle is important in many ways because it provides the foundation for all the issues that might arise at home. If your dog is under a year old or simply does not behave properly, consider a class to help you get started.

Continuing Beagle Training at Home

Of course, obedience training a Beagle is only the start. Your dog may learn a few basic tricks in the class, but if you cannot carry forward what you’ve learned back at home, good luck maintaining that control. You should be consistent, show your Beagle that you’re in charge at all times and make sure everyone in the household can also follow along with whatever you’ve taught your dog in training.

Remember that your dog will only do what it is taught to do. You must be consistent, reassuring and effective at maintaining the commands you give. The second you start waffling or forgetting to reassert your commands, your Beagle will start to revert to the original behaviors that you worked so hard to train them out of.
