Stop Beagle Whining
Causes of Beagle Whining
As with most dogs, Beagles don’t have a lot sounds in their vocabulary. The vocalizations they use all have their purpose for some type of communication. With Beagle whining the purpose is for care soliciting. Beagle puppies whine to communicate to their mothers that they are cold, hungry, or just want comfort. The Beagle whining brings a response from the mother and as a result the puppy learns that whining is a mechanism to get attention.
Sometimes the new human puppy owners inadvertently reinforce Beagle whining with their reactions to it. They attend to the puppy at every whine and whimper that the puppy makes. Others simply approach the put to make sure it’s all right and take action if necessary. This also reinforces to the puppy that whining will get some attention.
Beagle whining can occur for many reasons; because they’re anxious, excited, wanting attention, or because they are in pain. Beagle whining in the case of pain or trauma is reflexive and is regarded as a good thing since you will want to know about these conditions. For all others it can be a nuisance.
Stop Beagle Whining
First and foremost determine that any factors that may cause your dog to whine are not present. Be sure that he isn’t in any type of pain, that he is well fed and has plenty of fresh water to drink. Make sure that he isn’t cold or exposed to any elements that may cause anxiety. Be certain that he has gotten plenty of exercise and attention from you throughout the day.
You may also want to try dog appeasing pheromones (DAP). The use of dog appeasing pheromones is an idea that was borrowed from nature. The pheromones replicate those released by the mother while nursing to calm her puppies. DAP works incredibly well to reduce separation anxiety and stop whining. The best way to use DAP is with a diffuser but it also comes in wipes, sprays, and special collars.
If all the factors that may cause Beagle whining are removed it is permissible to ignore it when it happens. This is exactly how it is done in nature by the mother of the puppy. Puppies are normally brought home around 8 weeks of age and haven’t had that part of their training by their mothers yet and it’s your job to do it.
By ignoring the whining you are not reinforcing it by showing the dog that whining will get it the attention it desires. By maintaining your dog properly and not reinforcing the behavior you want to eliminate, the Beagle whining will soon stop.
